Viva Jamon!

You may or may not know this but the good people of Madrid love ham. Really love ham. Ham is in everything from salad to ham flavored ice cream. So as my own personal tribute to ham, here is a slideshow of pics from a visit to my local supermarket....Enjoy!

A Walk In The Park: Parque del Retiro

The Parque del Retiro  was created during the reign of King Philip II.  Over the years it has been expanded and houses many sculptures, fountains, and ponds.  the Parque del Retiro is a symbol of Madrid located in the heart of the city and is a popular spot for madrileños to enjoy the outdoors.  Some notable spots are the monument to Alfonso XIII, the Crystal Palace, and the lake at its center.

Happy Immaculate Conception Day

Today is the feast of the Immaculate Conception here in Spain. Since it is a national holiday, I decided to see what was crackin downtown.  It was definitely pretty crazy. Wall to wall people with street performers, Christmas Villages, and everything in between. I will have to say the people of Madrid know how to celebrate christian holidays.  Here are a few pics of my journey.

Taking A Walk

So before I locked myself out of the apartment, I managed to take a few pictures stuff around my apartment. Nothing too fancy. Update: I did get into the apartment. Apparently there is a trick to the lock.

Watching El Clasico in Madrid!

So on Monday I was able to Half way realize one of the things on my bucket list: watch Barcelona play in Spain. Granted it was only on tv and it was in Madrid but it was in Spain. To make it even better it was El Clasico, the face off between bitter rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona. I had a few reservations at first because I was watching the game in Madrid, but was happy to find some brave FCB supporters in the crowd. The game itself was more than I could ask for, the final score being 5-0 Barca. Visca Barca!
